Refresh Juice bar comes widely reputed by my peers, so I was excited to give this joint a try. Right off the bat, the toppings blew the competition out of the water. With unlimited toppings in build-your-own style, I found myself struggling to choose between almond butter and peanut butter, deliberating whether or not to include grapes, and piling on goji berry, flaxseed, and coconut flakes to add texture to the bowl. There was no way I could give Refresh anything but a 10/10 on Toppings.
The other really cool aspect of the build-your-own bowl was the fact that you could choose what fruit/flavor the base would be made out of - I chose a combination of coconut and pitaya which turned out really well. The coconut flavor offset nicely with the sweetness of the pitaya - my only minor complaint was I found myself wanting more from the coconut as it felt a little bland. Furthermore, biting into the coconut felt too much like a slushie rather than the ice-cream-esque texture I was looking for.
The only other detractor from this otherwise stellar bowl is the price to quantity ratio - it wasn't even bad, it's just not as much quantity as our top scorer, Robeks, even considering the spending on the BYOB aspect.
